Mario Gila Is Almost an AC Milan Player
AC Milan are closing in on what could be one of the most important signings of the summer 2026 transfer window: Mario Gila, the Spanish central defender from Lazio, is close to pulling on the Rossoneri shirt. Contacts between the two clubs are ongoing, and the conclusion of negotiations appears to be only hours away.
Atalanta and Napoli Have Stepped Back
Milan’s path to Gila has also been smoothed by the situation of other interested clubs. Atalanta and Napoli, who had previously shown interest in the Biancoceleste defender, have gradually withdrawn: financial difficulties and the lack of an agreement with the player and his entourage have effectively cleared the way, leaving Milan with a clear run to complete the deal.
The Financial Details
According to reports in circulation, Milan are expected to close with Lazio for around €25 million plus €5 million in bonuses, for a total that could reach €30 million. A significant sum, but one justified by the player’s profile. It is worth noting that Lazio will have to pass on 50% of the capital gain to Real Madrid, the club from which Gila originally arrived on a mandatory loan-to-buy deal, which is why the Biancocelesti were pushing to maximise the sale fee.
On the personal terms front, Gila is said to have already reached an agreement with Milan: reports speak of a five-year contract worth around €5 million net per season, plus bonuses. Significant agent fees are also expected. A major investment, reflecting the Rossoneri’s determination to build a solid defence around Amorim’s tactical needs.
A Name Already on Tare’s Radar
It is no coincidence that Gila’s name has been circulating at Milan for some time. Igli Tare, the club’s former sporting director, had already identified the Spanish defender as a primary target to strengthen the back line. Somewhat fittingly, it was Tare himself who brought Gila to Lazio during his time there, meaning he knows the player’s qualities inside out. A continuity of vision that Milan now seem ready to fully exploit.
Born in 2000, Gila is a modern central defender: physically imposing, strong in the air and capable of playing out from the back. Qualities that fit perfectly with the proactive football Amorim intends to bring to Milanello. As covered in our article on AC Milan’s Transfer Spree: Over €100 Million Between Ramos and Gila, the club has already committed major resources in this window, and Gila is the natural continuation of that strategy.
