AC Milan, transfer summit between Allegri and management: building the squad for next season

The rest day granted by Massimiliano Allegri to his squad was not spent in complete idleness by the Tuscan manager himself. The head coach made his way to Casa Milan on Viale Aldo Rossi for a fresh transfer market summit with the club’s management — the latest in a series of increasingly frequent meetings that have been defining these weeks at the club. Alongside Allegri at the table were CEO Giorgio Furlani and Sporting Director Igli Tare.

Allegri demands a competitive squad for the Champions League

Allegri‘s message to the board was clear and unambiguous: four or five quality reinforcements are needed to build a truly competitive side for next season. A request that stems from the current squad situation — just 19 outfield players, a number that falls well short of what is needed to compete across multiple fronts including the Champions League. According to the manager, a minimum of 24 outfield players is required to sustain a full campaign.

But it’s not just about numbers: Allegri wants to raise the overall quality of the squad in terms of both technical ability and international experience. Potential departures — a scenario that cannot be ruled out — could increase the number of necessary arrivals even further.

Goretzka: Milan are serious

One name that stands out on the manager’s list is Leon Goretzka, the German midfielder currently at Bayern Munich. Milan are working concretely and seriously to bring him to the Rossoneri, although — as always in these situations — caution is essential until a contract is actually signed. With the current management structure, no deal can be considered done until the ink is dry.

Worth noting is the overlap with Juventus, who are also reportedly interested in the German international, as well as in Robert Lewandowski. Two shared targets between the two historic rivals make this an already complex and competitive transfer window on the horizon.

Vlahovic without a renewal: can Milan re-enter the race?

Then there is the chapter of Dušan Vlahović. The Serbian striker at Juventus, who has still not renewed his contract with the Bianconeri, is back under the transfer market spotlight. Negotiations between the parties appear to have cooled compared to recent weeks, when a deal seemed close: that certainty has now evaporated, and both sides appear less optimistic.

AC Milan know the situation well: last summer the Rossoneri held three meetings at Casa Milan with the player’s agent without reaching a final agreement, largely due to the striker’s very high wage demands. Vlahović remained at Juventus for the entire season.

A season heavily disrupted by injury

One significant factor in any assessment of the player must be considered: the 2025-26 campaign has been severely impacted by physical problems. The striker managed just 14 Serie A appearances and 4 in the Champions League, totalling 18 matches and 6 goals. He was sidelined for almost four months, from 7 December to 14 March, and upon his return was injured again during the warm-up ahead of the Atalanta fixture, suffering a calf problem that caused him to miss the match against Bologna as well. Throughout his career, the Serbian centre-forward has also experienced pubalgia, a factor that interested clubs cannot ignore in their overall evaluation.

Should the renewal with Juventus fail to materialise, some very interesting market scenarios would open up: Milan could return to the table, though competition from major European clubs — Bayern Munich chief among them — with deeper pockets could once again prove decisive.

A transfer window full of Milan-Juventus crossover

What lies ahead is a summer transfer market packed with storylines connecting the two great historical rivals of Italian football. Not just the battle for Champions League qualification on the pitch, not just the emotion of Allegri facing his former club, but also a series of shared transfer targets that will make the upcoming summer window particularly lively and unpredictable. AC Milan want to be ready — with clear ideas and a defined strategy — to reclaim their place as absolute protagonists on the European stage.
