Despite the ups and downs, the poor performances and the lack of true consistency, Milan are right up there in the standings. They are still unbeaten in the league and sitting in 4th place among teams that have impressed more.
Because that’s exactly what it comes down to. The Rossoneri fanbase cannot fully rejoice, as several negative things have already surfaced this season. Good performances alternate with embarrassing displays. High-tempo spells alternate with moments of complete darkness, even within the same match. The squad is riddled with issues, between thin benches and unsuitable players. And while the league campaign is going well, the Europa League is already seriously compromised. The choice to prioritize one competition over another is, at the very least, debatable.
The Consistency Question
However, whoever takes responsibility for this decision should commit to being true to themselves and their choices. If the decision is to focus more on the league, it will be proven over the course of this week, with the matches against Bologna and Inter. After last Thursday’s disaster, Milan seem to have regrouped somewhat. But, once again, it all comes down to consistency and, as we’ve been saying since the start of the season, the potential to do well is there. Because Milan have now shown they can perform well even without some of their top players like Rabiot and Gila.
A Confidence Boost
This victory must serve as a confidence boost for both the players, who managed to win yesterday, and the fans. Things already said, true, but one must always strive to improve. Also because, as mentioned at the start, despite all their problems, Milan are right there, just 4 points off the top. It would be a shame to take that little something good and throw it in the bin. Let’s also remember — we are AC Milan. Aiming for the maximum wouldn’t be a bad idea.
