Milan’s defence still incomplete: a fourth central defender is needed
With the Mario Gila deal almost done and dusted, AC Milan are not stopping there: the club and Ruben Amorim are on the lookout for at least one more central defender to complete the Rossoneri’s backline. Several names are in circulation, but one stands out above all others: Gonzalo Inácio.
The Portuguese defender of Sporting CP is currently the profile most favoured by head coach Amorim, who knows him well from their shared time at the Lisbon club. A relationship built on mutual respect that translates into a clear technical preference from Milan’s manager.
Inácio: the right profile for Amorim’s system
A left-footed centre-back, physically commanding, technically assured on the ball and capable of building from the back: Gonzalo Inácio represents precisely the type of player Amorim is looking for in his system. His ability to operate in a back three — a tactical structure favoured by the Portuguese coach — makes him a near-natural fit for Milan.
As covered in a previous article, negotiations are circling around a figure of €40-45 million, with Como having attempted to enter the race without managing to dislodge Milan from their position of advantage.
Budget and priorities: Milan’s transfer window is far from over
With over €100 million already committed between Gonzalo Ramos and Mario Gila, Milan must now manage the remaining budget carefully. Adding Inácio would represent a further significant outlay, but would provide the final piece in building a solid, young, and tactically functional defence for Amorim’s system.
In the meantime, outgoings will also play a crucial role: players surplus to requirements or with a market, such as Santiago Giménez, could generate valuable funds to reinvest in still-open negotiations. Milan’s transfer activity remains lively and dynamic, with the clear aim of assembling a competitive squad across all fronts for the 2026-2027 season.
