Estupiñán at Milan: is the adventure already over?
After just one season in the red-and-black shirt, the future of Pervis Estupiñán at AC Milan looks increasingly uncertain. Sources close to the player have revealed signs of frustration and dissatisfaction with how his experience at Milanello has unfolded, with the Ecuadorian winger gradually falling down the pecking order in favour of a younger and less experienced option.
The left-back had arrived in the summer with the far-from-easy task of filling the shoes of Theo Hernandez, one of the most prolific defenders in terms of goals in Serie A in recent seasons and an absolute protagonist of the Milan project for several years. A changing of the guard that, in reality, has not produced the hoped-for results.
The highlight: the derby goal
Credit must be given to Estupiñán for scoring the decisive goal in the Milan derby against Inter, helping deliver a victory of immense emotional and sporting value. It was a moment that sparked hope for a turning point, but so far it appears to be an isolated flash in an otherwise underwhelming season.
His overall performances — both offensively and defensively — have not fully convinced the club’s management or the coaching staff, and the feeling is that the two parties could part ways at the end of the season. His agents, according to sources, are already working to find him a new club.
Milan’s plan for the flanks: one player for both sides
Behind the scenes at Milan, summer transfer planning is already underway. The board’s idea would be to sign a versatile wide player capable of operating on both flanks, in order to support both Alexis Saelemaekers on the right and the young Bartesaghi on the left — a tactical and financial choice aimed at optimising the squad.
In this scenario, Estupiñán would be the natural departure, especially given his discontent — however well hidden behind the usual polished press conference statements. It is no secret that the player has not been happy with his progressive marginalisation within the technical project.
Spinazzola on the radar: contact confirmed
In recent weeks, the name of Leonardo Spinazzola has also emerged with some insistence. The Italian left-back is currently at Napoli but expected to leave on a free transfer, with no renewal in sight with Aurelio De Laurentiis’s club. The 1993-born winger has been concretely linked with a move to Milan.
An exploratory conversation between Milan’s management and Spinazzola’s agents has been confirmed. However, at this stage, his profile does not appear to be the club’s top priority for reinforcing that position. His age — over 30 — and recent injury concerns could weigh heavily in the final assessment, even though his versatility and Italian passport (useful for squad composition requirements) make him a candidate worth monitoring.
Milan will keep an eye on developments in the coming weeks, but for now this remains a preliminary contact without a structured or serious approach. Summer is approaching and the decisions on the flanks will be crucial for next season’s technical project: the rossoneri board is working hard to provide Allegri with an even more competitive squad.
