Among the names that have been circulating around AC Milan in recent hours is that of David Alaba, the Austrian defender-midfielder leaving Real Madrid on a free transfer. The player, born in 1992, has been offered to several Serie A clubs, including Juventus, but at present the operation does not appear to be gaining traction with the Rossoneri.
Who is David Alaba
Despite a troubled season due to a serious knee injury that kept him sidelined for a lengthy period, Alaba remains a profile of absolute international standing. Raised in Bayern Munich’s academy, he has won virtually everything there is to win in football: Bundesliga titles, Champions League crowns, domestic cups — both with the Bavarian giants and with Real Madrid. Tactically versatile, capable of playing as a left-back, central defender or midfielder, he brings with him a remarkable technical and experiential pedigree.
However, his age — 33 — and the physical problems of recent months make Milan cautious. The Rossoneri are planning their transfer window with a multi-year horizon in mind, and a free agent with these characteristics does not perfectly fit the profile they are looking for, at least at this stage.
Milan prefer to wait for other profiles
According to available information, Milan have listened to the proposal but are not inclined to push hard for Alaba, at least for now. The philosophy behind the Rossoneri’s summer market focuses on combining quality and longevity: players still in the prime of their athletic careers, capable of delivering consistent performances both in the league and in European competitions.
The plan, as already outlined, involves expanding the squad with 5-6 new additions — a combination of fee-paid signings and free transfers. Alaba could fall into the second category, but his physical situation and the uncertainties surrounding his recovery make Milan cautious. Several other Serie A clubs have expressed interest, and in the coming days it will become clearer whether the Austrian international finds a home in the Italian top flight.
Milan are looking ahead with clarity: every signing must serve the technical project of Massimo Allegri and the construction of a solid squad, capable of withstanding the demands of an intense season across multiple competitions. Alaba represents an opportunity worth monitoring carefully, but he is not currently considered a priority.
