Ederson in the Frame: Amorim Wants Him, the Deal Is Feasible

AC Milan’s transfer activity is gathering pace just as the Milanello pre-season camp officially opens. Among the hottest names on the table is Ederson, Atalanta’s midfield engine, who has shot to the top of the Rossoneri’s list of targets over recent days. There is no concrete negotiation yet, but the hypothesis is credible enough to warrant a closer look.

The story has deep roots: Ruben Amorim had already identified Ederson as an ideal profile for his midfield during his time at Manchester United. The deal was progressing, but ultimately collapsed. Now, with the Portuguese manager at the helm of Milan, the Brazilian midfielder’s name resurfaces with even greater urgency. Amorim knows him, values him, and sees him as the prototype of the midfielder his system demands.

The Deal Structure: Asllani Plus Cash

Atalanta value Ederson at around €45 million — a significant figure, but not an insurmountable one if the right formula is found. This is where a potential technical counterpart comes in: the Bergamo club is reportedly interested in Asllani, a midfielder currently in Milan’s ranks. By including the player in the deal, the cash component could drop considerably, to around €15 million, making the operation far more manageable for the Rossoneri.

It must be stressed that no official negotiation has been opened at this stage: this is a logical market hypothesis, backed however by solid elements. Atalanta, aware that Ederson’s contract is running down, have already proposed a renewal to avoid losing him for free. That said, he is not untouchable: if a €45 million offer arrived, La Dea would sell. And with a creative formula like the one outlined, the gap between the two clubs’ positions could narrow rapidly.

Given that the Manchester United deal has definitively fallen through, Milan could seize the moment and move quickly. A midfielder of Ederson’s calibre would be a top-level addition to Amorim’s new-look squad.

Pavlović and the Rest: The Departures List

On the outgoings front, Milan are clarifying their squad picture ahead of the new campaign. Strahinja Pavlović, the Serbian defender who arrived with high expectations, is among those considered available for transfer. Despite having been a derby hero with a crucial goal, his overall season failed to convince, and Aston Villa are said to be monitoring the situation. The Birmingham club, coming off a high-profile European campaign, are looking for reinforcements and have reportedly identified the Rossoneri centre-back as a target.

Alongside Pavlović, Emerson Royal is also expected to leave Milanello: the Brazilian full-back does not feature in Amorim’s plans, and finding a buyer will be a priority in the coming weeks.

The list of potential departures is longer still: Youssouf Fofana, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ismaël Bennacer and Warren Bondo are all players who could leave before the season begins. Bennacer, in particular, is in talks with a Qatari club and is working towards a contract termination — which is why he was not included in the pre-season squad list. As for Bondo, the young midfielder has attracted the interest of the Watford, owned by the Pozzo family, with his agent confirming that several English clubs are keen.

The Rossoneri’s transfer window is in full swing: with Fofana and other profiles being monitored for potential exits, the management is working on multiple fronts to build the ideal squad for Amorim. The coming weeks will be decisive.
