Corriere della Sera drops the story: Allegri dines with Giuntoli
When the Corriere della Sera breaks a story, it is worth paying close attention. The Milan-based daily reports on a dinner between Massimiliano Allegri and Cristiano Giuntoli, Napoli’s current sporting director, which has inevitably fuelled speculation about the Livorno-born coach’s future. An informal meeting, perhaps — but in football, these things rarely happen by accident.
Rumours of Allegri potentially landing on Napoli’s bench, which had seemed to be fading, have now regained momentum. Reports speak of phone calls, contacts, and a Neapolitan club seriously exploring this option. The reason is fairly clear: Maurizio Sarri, initially identified as Napoli’s first choice, does not appear convinced about a return to the shadow of Vesuvius and could instead end up at Atalanta, leaving the Campania club short of credible managerial solutions.
Allegri, however, wants to stay at Milan
Despite the noise and external manoeuvring, the prevailing feeling is that Massimiliano Allegri wants to remain at AC Milan. The coach has invested energy and credibility in the Rossoneri project and does not appear inclined to jump ship at the very moment the foundations of a new cycle are being laid.
Allegri knows, however, that his continued presence depends on what happens in the coming days at boardroom level. If Milan proceeds with a serious management restructuring, if figures arrive with whom a solid project can be built, and if the transfer market moves in the right direction — with the players the coach considers necessary — then there would be no reason for him to look elsewhere.
The risk: stagnation pushing him towards the exit
The opposite scenario is equally understandable. If after the final league game nothing were to change — if the management structure remained unchanged, without clarity of roles or concrete answers on the market — it would be difficult for Allegri to ignore the offers arriving from outside. Napoli, with its ambitions and resources, is an extremely attractive proposition.
The boardroom battle, therefore, inevitably intertwines with the technical one. As already outlined in our piece on the Serie A managerial merry-go-round, the managers’ market is in full swing and every move can trigger a chain reaction.
The next few days will tell everything
It is Thursday the 21st — just a few days remain until the final Serie A matchday. After the final whistle of the Cagliari game, AC Milan will need to provide clear answers about its future: who will run the club, who will sit in the dugout, and with what technical and financial project the 2026/27 season will be approached. The weeks that follow will be decisive. And the hope — concrete, not wishful — is that Allegri remains at the heart of the Rossoneri project, the protagonist of an AC Milan finally structured to win.
