The award was presented by a Croatian delegation led by Dario Šimić, former defender and Milan icon during the 2000s. Šimić experienced the golden era of the Rossoneri and was one of the protagonists of the club’s glorious European nights wearing the Devil’s jersey. His presence at Milanello added a touch of history and emotion to an already special occasion.
The former defender also had the opportunity to watch part of the team’s training session, exchange words with Modrić and spend time alongside him during the ceremony. A moment of warmth and mutual respect between champions, bound together by a shared shirt and shared history.
Modrić at Milan: a future still to be written
Despite his age, the Croatian midfielder continues to show he is a player who is physically and mentally sharp, capable of performing at the highest level. This season, despite a complicated final stretch for the whole team, Modrić has received enormous affection from the Rossoneri faithful and has settled well into life in Milan.
A decision on his future has not yet been made, but the Croatian’s inclination appears to be to continue with Milan. Two factors, however, could significantly influence that choice: qualification for the Champions League — which would open exciting European scenarios for Modrić too — and the continuation of Massimiliano Allegri on the Rossoneri bench. Should the manager leave, some certainties within the dressing room could also waver.
