Tare speaks publicly for the first time since leaving Milan

It has been 17 days since Igli Tare was dismissed from AC Milan’s leadership, on May 25th, alongside Massimiliano Allegri, Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada. Yesterday evening, at an event organised by Old Clan, a Milan supporters’ club, the former sporting director broke his silence and addressed the public for the first time — with words full of emotion and sincerity.

“I feel guilty”: the former DS confesses

Tare did not give a formal interview, but delivered a heartfelt message directly to the fans in attendance. “I feel guilty”, he said, “because in the final matchday we failed to bring Milan into the Champions League”. A courageous statement, reflecting a man willing to take personal responsibility without hiding behind excuses.

He went on to say that, despite the disappointment, working for Milan had been a great honour: “Milan is bigger than everyone and will always remain in my heart”. Words that show how deeply the Rossoneri club leaves its mark on those who have had the privilege of being part of it, even for just one year.

An intense season of transfers and missed goals

Tare arrived at Milanello in late May 2025 and oversaw one of the most active transfer windows in recent years, with over ten new signings and numerous departures. As often happens with such large-scale operations, not everything went to plan. What cannot be disputed, however, is his constant presence and daily commitment at Milanello throughout the entire season.

The outcome was unfortunately not what had been hoped for: Champions League qualification slipped away on the final matchday, a bitter ending for everyone who worked at the club this season.

The human side of a football story

Beyond the technical and managerial aspects, Tare’s words paint the picture of a professional who lived his time at the Rossoneri with genuine passion. The visible emotion in his message, the desire to apologise to the fans and his recognition of the club’s immense value all speak of a true bond with Milan. A farewell that invites reflection, and a reminder of how deeply this club gets under the skin of those who live it from within.
