Winning the derby is always an unmatched pleasure. Doing it like this, outclassing Inter for long stretches of the game and without practically taking any risks, makes it all the more enjoyable. If only every match could be like this.
Stepping out of this bubble of happiness, let’s come back down to earth. Milan this season has been a rollercoaster of performances and results, especially in recent weeks. Fine victories are alternated with shameful collapses. Many players can perform brilliantly in one match, only to be a disaster on the pitch just days later. That’s why it’s hard to rejoice too much after these wins.
The Diavolo’s Two Faces
This is not pessimism, but rather an awareness of this team’s dual nature. This duality not only takes away the joy even after results like last night’s, but also makes any excessive praise for Milan’s performances feel redundant. Because yes, a great game was played against Inter, but in a week’s time we could very well be talking about a Diavolo that has crumbled once again.
As always, the goal in football is balance and consistency — two things Milan has never managed to achieve throughout the season. Hoping for these milestones to be reached has become a dull and disillusioned routine. But we have no alternatives; we will keep hoping, more or less convincingly, that this team finds its balance.
A Reason to Smile: Moreira
In the meantime, we can enjoy the growth of some players, Moreira above all. Hoping that the poor performances seen so far become a distant memory. And unfortunately, that will take time.
