These are the numbers belonging to Diego Moreira, the young Portuguese attacker who is fast becoming one of the most fascinating stories of Milan’s early season. A scoring rate of roughly one goal every 40-41 minutes — figures that would be the envy of any starting striker in Serie A.
The goals that made San Siro roar
The 2003-born forward has scored twice against Lazio and once against Lecce — the latter capped off by a powerful, precise left-foot finish after a fine individual run that has already become his trademark. Volleys, thunderous strikes and a physical determination that, in certain moments, recall a young Theo Hernández storming forward down the left flank: a freight train that’s hard to stop.
The tactical question: where does Moreira play best?
The question many are asking is a fair one: should Amorim use him more decisively in a higher position? So far the Portuguese has operated mainly as a winger or advanced midfielder, but his numbers suggest that pushed even closer to goal, he could be truly devastating. The Portuguese striker signed in the summer is crucial to Milan’s build-up play — he presses relentlessly, works for the team and raises the defensive line — but needs quality support to finish consistently. That’s precisely why the Pulisic–Moreira–Ramos combination could prove lethal: American quality, the youth and unpredictability of the young Portuguese, and the movement of a modern centre-forward.
This isn’t fantasy football. Moreira is already one of Milan’s standout summer signings and the data backs it up. Given the right role, he could comfortably reach 10-12 goals for the season. It wouldn’t be the first time: Loftus-Cheek, in his debut campaign under Pioli, surprised everyone with a similar tally once he found his ideal position.
Bartesaghi and the system’s flexibility
