Milan-Benfica 0-2, player ratings

Starting XI

Maignan: 5.5. He can’t reach the first goal, and for the second he doesn’t even try.

Terracciano: 5.5. Loses track of both the ball and his opponents. Inattentive and generally unreliable.

De Winter: 5.5. Starts reasonably well, then gets lost just like the rest of the defence.

Pavlovic: 6. The least disastrous defender on the pitch, managing at least to win a few duels and anticipate some opponents.

Chukuweze: 6. Works hard and attempts some interesting runs, but ultimately produces nothing in attack. When needed, he is useful in defensive recovery too.

Musah: 6. Wins back a few balls and avoids major mistakes, but for the rest he is just as invisible as the others.

Jashari: 5.5. Impalpable and almost harmful when he lets opponents and the ball slip past him.

Bartesaghi: 5.5. Fails to track Lukebakio on Benfica’s opening goal.

Cissè and Hutchinson: 5.5. As attacking midfielders they put in a very similar shift. They try to move and make themselves available, but to no avail.

G. Ramos: 5.5. Just because a striker does the dirty work with his back to goal doesn’t mean he’s not allowed to shoot.

Substitutes

Gila: 5.5. Brought on to shore up the defence, he fails to intervene for Benfica’s second goal.

Pulisic: 5.5. Starts promisingly, but ends up attempting through balls that he gets more and more wrong.

Moreira: 6. Deployed on the left he is certainly more useful than whoever usually occupies that flank. In this game, though, he managed very little.

Saelemaekers: 6. Comes on with the situation already compromised, does his job on the wing but it is clearly not enough.

Rabiot: 6. Too little time and too little substance.

Manager

Manager Amorim: 5. The question you’d want to ask him is: what kind of game were you trying to play? Because, honestly, I don’t think anyone figured it out.
