Inácio: Amorim’s Top Defensive Target

The number one priority for Sérgio Amorim in this transfer window is a quality central defender. The name at the very top of the list is Gonzalo Inácio, 23 years old, a left-footed centre-back from Sporting CP in Lisbon — the very club where Amorim built his reputation as a head coach. The Portuguese manager knows the player better than anyone, and has identified him as the ideal profile to shore up the Rossoneri backline.

As previously covered on CasaMilan.it, Inácio has been the leading candidate to reinforce the defensive department for several weeks now.

The Release Clause Problem: €60 Million, Milan Push for a Discount

The main stumbling block is the price tag. Inácio’s contract at Sporting CP contains a €60 million release clause — a figure AC Milan considers too steep, particularly after the significant outlay of nearly €80 million to bring striker Gonzalo Ramos to Milanello.

As a result, the Rossoneri are in direct negotiations with the Lisbon club, aiming to agree a deal in the region of €40–45 million — roughly €20 million below the clause. A meaningful gap still remains, but not an unbridgeable one given that all parties appear motivated to reach an agreement.

Como Enter the Race: Fabregas Adds a Complication

A fresh complication has now emerged: Como under Cesc Fàbregas have reportedly also set their sights on Gonzalo Inácio. The Lombardy club, backed by an ambitious project and financial firepower they have already demonstrated — witness the stunning €60 million-plus deal for Nico Paz, prised away from Real Madrid — show no signs of sitting on the sidelines in the hunt for defensive reinforcement.

Como’s interest is not to be taken lightly. As the Liberali case made clear, the club has a real ability to attract players that AC Milan had been counting on. Should the Rossoneri fail to move quickly enough, the risk of losing another head-to-head battle with Como becomes very real.

AC Milan Remain Focused: Inácio Stays the Primary Target

Despite the competition, AC Milan have no intention of backing down. Amorim has made his preference abundantly clear, and the Rossoneri hierarchy know that reinforcing the defence is a non-negotiable priority for the season ahead. With Fikayo Tomori apparently heading for the exit, Milan could be in the market for more than one central defender this summer.

In the coming weeks, negotiations for Inácio will inevitably intensify. Paradoxically, Como’s interest could work in Milan’s favour — the pressure of a rival circling tends to be the best incentive to get a deal over the line.
