AC Milan are set to complete the signing of Omari Hutchinson, a 2003-born attacking midfielder currently at Nottingham Forest. The two clubs have reportedly reached a preliminary agreement based on a loan deal, with discussions ongoing over whether a purchase option will be included. Who Is Omari Hutchinson?
Hutchinson, 22, is a left-footed attacking midfielder who predominantly operates on the right side of the creative line, though he can adapt to the left flank as well. Physically compact (1.74 m), he is an agile, instinctive player capable of slipping between the lines, with strong dribbling ability and a knack for breaking defensive structures through quick, sharp movements.
He developed his game at RB Leipzig, where he showed his best qualities as a right winger and attacking midfielder — delivering assists, showing intelligent off-ball movement and consistent performances. Last summer he was bought outright by Nottingham Forest for €43 million, a fee that reflected the high regard English football held for him. However, his debut Premier League season fell short of expectations: across 40 appearances, he scored just one goal, highlighting a clear need for improvement in front of goal.
His Tactical Role in Amorim’s System
Within the tactical framework Sérgio Amorim is building, Hutchinson could slot into the right side of the attacking midfield, working in support of the striker — currently Gonzalo Ramos. Compared to Loftus-Cheek, who has never been a natural number ten and who underwhelmed both in terms of output and goal threat, the English midfielder brings more natural attributes to the role: dynamism, unpredictability and the ability to beat his man.
His age is undoubtedly a positive: at 22 there is significant room for growth, and the Milan environment could provide the right challenge for him to finally fulfil his potential. That said, the loan formula raises some questions: if the club truly believed in him, a permanent deal would have sent a stronger message. A loan, on the other hand, feels more like a short-term solution — a way to give Amorim more options without committing fully.
