Galatasaray try again: fresh move for Youssouf Fofana
Galatasaray are not giving up and have come knocking on Milan’s door once more for Youssouf Fofana. The Turkish club, who had already made concrete moves for the French midfielder during the January transfer window, have renewed their interest with the aim of bringing him to Istanbul.
The January rejection and the player’s stance
The story between Fofana and Galatasaray already has a clear precedent. In January, the Süper Lig club submitted concrete offers for the French defensive midfielder, but the player firmly rejected every proposal: “I’m happy at Milan, I want to play my cards here.” A definitive stance, driven by the fact that at the time the Rossoneri were in the thick of the Scudetto race, sitting at the top of the Serie A table and breathing down Inter’s neck.
The Frenchman, a cornerstone of Milan’s midfield, has never seriously entertained the idea of a move to Turkey. His will remains the decisive factor in this saga.
Milan’s asking price: €30 million
From a financial standpoint, Milan’s position is equally straightforward. To let Fofana leave, the Rossoneri hierarchy are demanding a fee in the region of €30 million. A valuation that reflects the midfielder’s importance within the Milan project and the central role he plays in the team’s tactical setup.
However, beyond the financial aspect, the real stumbling block for Galatasaray remains the player’s will. Fofana does not appear inclined to change his mind, at least regarding a Turkish destination. The conversation could shift if a proposal were to arrive from a more appealing league such as the Premier League or Ligue 1.
Conditions for a sale: currently non-existent
As things stand, there are no conditions — financial or personal — for Fofana’s sale to Galatasaray. The Turkish club would like to close a deal below Milan’s asking price, and crucially would need to convince the player to leave Serie A and the Rossoneri project. An operation that looks, as of today, very unlikely.
Milan can take comfort: having a player who wants to stay and believes in the project sends a positive signal for the present and the future. Fofana is a midfield pillar, and his continued presence is a guarantee for the team’s ambitions in the second half of the season and beyond.
