Juventus eye Jashari: a rumour shaking Milan’s transfer market
Reports from Gazzetta dello Sport have dropped a bombshell: Juventus are said to have set their sights on Ardon Jashari, the Swiss midfielder AC Milan signed last summer for approximately €35 million plus bonuses. A rumour that, on the eve of the upcoming Milan vs Juventus clash, must be treated with caution — but one that cannot simply be dismissed given the Rossoneri’s recent track record of selling key players when the price is deemed right.
Who is Ardon Jashari
Ardon Jashari is a Swiss-born midfielder, born in 2004, widely regarded as one of the most exciting prospects of his generation in European football. Milan pursued him relentlessly throughout last summer’s transfer window, with negotiations dragging on for months through bids, counter-bids and standoffs, before finally concluding with a significant outlay. An acquisition that generated enormous excitement among the Rossoneri faithful, convinced the club had secured a talent capable of defining the years ahead.
A season derailed by injury
Sadly, his debut campaign in red and black was severely disrupted by a serious injury that kept him sidelined for roughly two to three months. A lengthy absence that broke his integration into the squad and prevented him from working consistently under Massimiliano Allegri. Upon his return, the young Swiss midfielder faced additional challenges: rebuilding match sharpness after a prolonged lay-off is always difficult, and even more so when competing for a starting berth against a world-class operator like Luka Modrić, an indispensable figure in Allegri’s system.
In light of these circumstances, his limited exposure over the course of the season has a clear and understandable explanation — one that has nothing to do with his ability. Developing a young talent takes time, consistency and, above all, trust: three elements that have not always characterised the Rossoneri’s handling of young players in recent seasons.
Selling Jashari would be a strategic mistake
Letting Jashari leave for Juventus — a direct rival in Serie A and the Champions League — after just one injury-hit season would mean walking away from a major investment before seeing any return on it. The real danger is finding themselves, in a few years’ time, watching the Swiss midfielder flourish in a black-and-white shirt while regretting a hasty sale driven by short-term thinking.
Milan have been down this road before, and supporters know all too well the bitter feeling such moments bring. The hope is that this remains nothing more than transfer gossip, fuelled by the proximity of the derby between the two clubs, and that the club has the strength and the foresight to protect a talent in whom it chose to invest with conviction. Jashari deserves at least one full, injury-free season, with proper pre-season preparation, before any definitive assessment is made.
