Anguissa on Milan’s Radar: Allegri Pushes for the Napoli Midfielder

A new name has emerged in Milan’s summer transfer plans: Frank Zambo Anguissa, the Cameroonian midfielder currently at Napoli. According to reports circulating in recent hours, it was Massimiliano Allegri himself who put Anguissa’s name forward during meetings with the Rossoneri board, expressing clear appreciation for the player’s profile.

Anguissa is under contract with Napoli until 2027, but last summer he already appeared close to a departure. He stayed because Antonio Conte wanted to keep him for a second season at the helm of the Neapolitan club. This time around, however, the situation seems different, and the midfielder could genuinely leave Naples in the summer window.

Turkish Competition, But Allegri Has a Strong Hand

The Turkish market has proven over recent years to be an increasingly attractive destination for Serie A players, with clubs capable of offering salaries that dwarf Italian standards. Victor Osimhen is the most glaring example. Anguissa has also attracted concrete interest from Turkey, where clubs could offer him a financially compelling deal.

Nevertheless, Allegri’s interest could represent a hugely appealing sporting alternative: playing for AC Milan, competing for the Scudetto and the Champions League, is a prospect that can tip the balance in any player’s final decision.

The Concerns: Injuries and Age

Not everything is straightforward, however. Anguissa’s profile comes with legitimate concerns: the midfielder had a second half of the season disrupted by back problems, with a relapse that significantly limited his minutes. He made 17 Serie A appearances, scoring 4 goals, but his performances faded as the season progressed.

There is also the age factor: Anguissa turns 29 in November, which does not make him a youth prospect but in some ways fits Allegri’s philosophy of preferring mature, reliable and experienced players over unproven young talents. Napoli, aware of the player’s situation, should not demand an exorbitant fee to let him go.

Loftus-Cheek and Fofana: Bags Packed

To fund and make room for new arrivals, Milan will need to sell. The names already marked for departure are Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Youssouf Fofana. At the start of the season, Allegri publicly declared he expected at least 15 goals combined from the two midfielders, but their goal contributions fell well short of that target — a disappointing return that has undermined the coach’s confidence in both.

For Loftus-Cheek, there are enquiries from the Premier League: the English midfielder is well regarded in his home country and could find a high-profile club willing to take him. For Fofana, interest comes mainly from Turkey, though his sale is far from straightforward: the Frenchman was bought from Monaco for €25 million and Milan are reluctant to take too heavy a loss on the deal.

Goretzka and the Midfield Future: Milan Must Move Fast

The other big name linked with Milan’s midfield remains Leon Goretzka, the German international set to leave Bayern Munich. The player is biding his time, waiting until the end of the season to assess all the offers on the table. Beyond Milan, there is interest from Italian, Spanish and especially English clubs — with Tottenham Hotspur leading the way and potentially armed with greater financial firepower if they avoid relegation.

The Rossoneri hierarchy knows they must act quickly to avoid losing out on a player of this calibre. The most likely scenario at this stage sees Anguissa and Goretzka as potential replacements for Loftus-Cheek and Fofana: two midfielders combining physicality, experience and international pedigree to raise the quality of Milan’s engine room.

Meanwhile, the stays of Jashari and Ricci appear confirmed — the latter also for squad list reasons, being Italian in a squad with few domestic players — while the club awaits a decision from Luka Modric, whose answer will speak volumes about the ambitions Milan harbour for the 2026-27 season.
