AC Milan in limbo: everything on hold while football moves on
It is 4 June 2026 and AC Milan finds itself in a state of complete deadlock. No head coach, no sporting director, no chief executive: the Rossoneri have been without any technical or managerial leadership since 25 May, when Gerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimović decided to clear the decks, dismissing the entire management team and the head coach.
Talks with Glasner: a step forward, but still no agreement
In the last few hours, a significant development has emerged: a long and wide-ranging meeting was held with Oliver Glasner in Germany. The topics covered were substantial — from technical planning to squad building, from the transfer budget to reinforcement strategies. The situation of several key squad members was also discussed, including Maignan, Leão, Rabiot and Modrić, along with potential departures that could reshape the Rossoneri roster.
However, even this meeting did not produce a definitive agreement. Talks continue, but time is running out and tension is rising. As previously reported, AC Milan had met Glasner with the idea of a tandem solution involving Rangnick, but negotiations remain open and complex.
Glasner or Pochettino? The current state of play
Among the names in the frame, Glasner appears to have a practical advantage over other candidates: his immediate availability. Unlike Mauricio Pochettino, currently committed to leading the United States national team ahead of the World Cup, the Austrian coach could begin working with the club straight away — not necessarily on the training pitch, given that many players are on holiday or involved in the global tournament, but on the organisational, strategic and transfer-market level.
Choosing Pochettino, on the other hand, would mean waiting until his US duties are over, losing further precious time at a crucial stage of pre-season preparation.
The World Cup: yet another variable slowing everything down
As if that were not enough, the imminent start of the Club World Cup — which will involve numerous Rossoneri players — adds a further logistical complication. Players committed to the competition will not be available for the early stages of pre-season training, making it even more urgent to have a technical leader in place who can plan every aspect of the 2026/27 season well in advance.
The current situation is the direct result of a slow and cumbersome decision-making process that fails to account for the time constraints of professional football. Every week of delay is a week handed to rivals, who in the meantime are building their squads, defining their strategies and closing transfer deals.
The fans’ optimism as an engine for change
Despite the difficulties, the Rossoneri fan base remains one of the most passionate in Europe, capable of supporting AC Milan even in its most challenging moments. And this passion is the most precious resource the club has at its disposal. It is precisely thanks to this unconditional love that Milan will find the right path: when decisions are finally made, when the new technical and managerial leadership takes shape, the Rossoneri faithful will be ready to embrace the new era with enthusiasm.
AC Milan has always known how to rise again. And this time will be no different.
