Allegri relies on offensive talent and midfield balance to conquer Rome. Biancocelesti dealing with several absences, but the Olimpico remains a tough ground.

MILAN – At the Olimpico, Milan are looking for consistency and crucial points in the race for the top spots. The clash against Lazio represents a key turning point in the Rossoneri’s season: Massimiliano Allegri’s side want to confirm their positive run and take advantage of the difficulties facing the Biancocelesti, who are dealing with several absences.

The Devil at the Olimpico

Rome evokes mixed memories for the Rossoneri, but this time Milan arrive in the capital with confidence and the aim of staying in touch with the top of the table. After a recent run of positive results, the group is banking on the quality of their attack and the solidity of a defence that has rediscovered its compactness in recent weeks.
The match promises pace and intensity: on one side Sarri’s Lazio, faithful to their 4-3-3 and backed by the Olimpico crowd, on the other a Milan side ready to strike with speed and talent on the flanks.

Latest from Milanello

Allegri has to deal with some important absences. Adrien Rabiot will miss out through suspension, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Matteo Gabbia are injured. Other players have also not yet fully recovered.
The Rossoneri coach is expected to go with a 3-5-2 formation capable of providing balance and quality in transitions.
Probable Milan lineup:
Maignan; Tomori, De Winter, Pavlovic; Saelemaekers, Fofana, Modric, Jashari (or Ricci), Estupinan; Pulisic, Leao.

Up front, everything revolves around Rafael Leao’s creativity and Christian Pulisic’s clinical finishing, as they look to exploit the spaces against a Lazio side that could be short-handed, especially in midfield.

Lazio between emergency and pride

The Biancocelesti also arrive at the match with several squad issues: Provedel, Rovella and Cataldi are among those ruled out, while Romagnoli remains a doubt.
Sarri is expected to field an attacking trident of Isaksen, Maldini and Zaccagni, looking to put pressure on the Rossoneri defence with pace and aggression.

The key to the match

The battle will be fought primarily in midfield. Milan will try to impose their quality and passing game through Modric and Fofana, while Lazio will seek intensity and quick counter-attacks.
For the Rossoneri, winning at the Olimpico would send a strong signal to the rest of the league: a victory that could keep the title race alive and strengthen the confidence of a squad that wants to be protagonists once again.

The coach immediately warned his players about the characteristics of their opponents. “They give you very little space and put a lot of pressure on the ball. At the same time, they have players with great technical ability,” Allegri explained, underlining how teams coached by Maurizio Sarri are traditionally difficult to face.

The Rossoneri environment was also boosted by a visit from club legend Andriy Shevchenko, who was at Milanello in recent hours. Allegri commented with a smile: “Sheva’s visit was a real pleasure, let’s hope it brings us good luck ahead of tomorrow’s match.”

Milan head into the game on the back of a derby win and a positive atmosphere in the dressing room. “After the match we were all happy about the three points that allowed us to extend our lead over the teams behind us,” Allegri said. “The lads came back to training in a very calm manner. Now we have Lazio, always a tough game. It’s important to take another step forward. We’ve reached 60 points, the next mini target is to get to 70.”

Impressive defensive numbers too, with just 20 goals conceded, but the Rossoneri coach plays down title talk. “It’s not about trying: we have to do our job, because with 60 points you don’t get anywhere. There’s a team ahead with a 7-point lead and others chasing us from behind. We need to focus on ourselves. To finish in the top four, we need to win another five matches.”

Regarding selection, Milan will be without Rabiot. Allegri explained the decision is still open: “Tomorrow I don’t know yet whether Jashari or Ricci will play, but the important thing is that the team puts in an organised performance with a strong defensive phase. They often score late on.” In Rome, the Rossoneri will still be able to count on strong support from their fans: “There will be 10,000 Milan fans, that’s very important for us.”

On the attacking front, Gimenez will still be unavailable, although the coach reassured everyone about his condition. “He won’t be called up, but he’s in good shape, especially psychologically. For the final part of the season, we need players who score goals.”

A question about a possible title comeback was inevitable. Allegri was pragmatic: “There’s only one way to catch Inter: they lose and we win. The results will tell if we’ve been good enough to win enough matches.”

Tactically, the coach expects a complex game. “It will be a difficult match, they concede very little. By their nature, they’ve always played this kind of season. For them it will be an important game because they’ll try to beat Milan, and for us it is too because it will allow us to take another small step forward.”

Allegri also touched on the European topic and the struggles of Italian teams in the Champions League. “Football is great because it’s debatable and every year things change. Even the English clubs are struggling. This format is entertaining but it can change the standings a lot. There’s no rule.”

The final message to the team is clear: balance and focus. “The strength we need is to work with serenity without getting too high or too low. Milan are on a good path, but we haven’t achieved any objective yet. Now the games that really matter are coming.”

Finally, there was an update on some players’ conditions. “Pulisic is much better physically, he had a good game in the derby and is constantly improving. Leao, Fullkrug and Nkunku are also doing well.”

And a quip about Fofana: “The step I’d like to see? A goal. Let’s hope he scores one soon.”

As for Milan’s growth in recent months, Allegri prefers to look ahead: “We need to have the conviction to keep getting results. Tomorrow there’s another game and we’ll be judged on that.”

On the Scudetto, however, the coach stays true to his philosophy: “The ambition isn’t to talk about the title, but to give our maximum every day. Then we’ll see who comes out on top: the season is long and in the end the best team over the whole campaign wins.”
