Milan win, and that’s what matters most, a thrilling match against Atalanta. Both teams showed they can play at a high pace, delivering fast, dynamic football full of runs and chances created.
First Half: Milan Take Control
At the start of the match, Sarri’s side looked the more proactive. The Goddess players often managed to circulate the ball in the opposition’s half, thanks to a higher tempo compared to their opponents, who were often slow and distracted. Then Milan raised their heads and picked up the pace. The game settled into a good rhythm from both sides, with Amorim’s men looking to win the ball back with a high press whenever possible.
The home side tried to build attacking moves by exploiting wide midfield channels, while the visitors attempted to use long balls and exploit the spaces left by the Rossoneri’s defenders. Neither side managed to convert, until Milan broke the deadlock with a Gonzalo Ramos penalty. After this opening goal, both teams lowered the tempo: Atalanta struggled to attack, settling for winning fouls all over the pitch, while Milan rarely threatened in the final third. That was until, late in the first half, Rabiot made a perfect run into the box after a through ball from Moreira, and finished for 2-0, leaving the Bergamo defence stunned.
Second Half: Atalanta Fight Back, But Milan Hold On
The second half began with a Milan side pressing and building, looking to exploit the pace of their wide players, especially Chukuweze. Then, after another Ramos penalty — this time missed — Amorim’s men extended the lead to 3-0 with a Gila header from a Modric corner.
But the match, which seemed over with half an hour to go, reopened when Gaetano came off the bench to pull one back for Sarri’s side, making it 3-1. The tempo seemed to drop for both teams, with no other notable chances — until Kristovic latched onto a perfect ball from Bellanova inside the box, catching both Gila and De Winter off guard, making it 3-2.
The match burst back to life with 10 minutes remaining, as the visitors pushed for an equaliser and created a golden chance through Zappacosta, who was brilliantly denied by Maignan. That was the last action of note, and the match ended there.
Conclusions
Milan win, despite everything, a high-tempo match on both sides of the pitch. Once again, setting aside avoidable and sometimes careless mistakes, Amorim has shown exactly what he demands from his football and his squad. But, once again, there is room for improvement.
