With resignation in their hearts after losing all hope of winning the league title, Milan now have the objective of consolidating their position to secure a spot in the Champions League.
First half: slow pace and a fortunate goal
The first half against Torino was characterized by a sluggish pace, in which the home side’s errors in possession stood out more than any actual goal-scoring chances. Despite a few sporadic dangerous moves from both sides, Maignan and Paleari remained largely uninvolved. In what was an overall disappointing first half, Milan took the lead through Pavlovic, who pulled off a stroke of luck as spectacular as it was fortunate, before Torino equalized through Simeone following a collective lapse from the Rossoneri rearguard.
Second half: Milan step up, then wobble
In the second half, Milan came out with renewed energy, retaking the lead thanks to Rabiot, who found himself in the right place at the right time, before Fofana extended the advantage. Allegri‘s side were able to manage the game and contain their opponents while also looking to hit on the break with a few more chances. However, around the 80th minute, Torino reopened the match through a rather naive penalty conceded and converted by Vlasic.
Three points for the Champions League push
Apart from that scare, Milan managed the closing stages without any major issues and returned to winning ways, trying to give meaning to this end of the season.
